3D GPS Machine Control Modeling

Our 3D GPS models are "Survey Quality", giving the contractor the highest quality data possible, helping the contractor get the most out of their machine control investment.

An integral part of the 3D GPS machine control model preparation involves an extensive review by our in-house Professional Engineers. If any discrepancies, conflicts, errors or omissions are identified during this review, we will promptly notify all relevant parties. MESH Consulting's team will work with you and the design engineers to correct any errors or constructibility problems while holding to the original design intent wherever possible. This review and the subsequent resolution of any issues occurs before the start of the project, so problems that would typically result in days or weeks of lost production, are addressed ahead of time and without any impact to the project schedule or budget.

MESH's engineers have experience in preparing models for all sorts of construction projects, including rough and fine roadway grading, utility trench models, stormwater management basins and swales, and footing excavation models. In addition, if surveying is being performed by the contractor, MESH can provide stakeout points for their use (offset points for storm & sanitary structures, curb, etc.) You tell us the offset and how you would like the points setup and we will provide a stakeout file for your use.

Whether you need a model for a subdivision, an airport, a highway or a warehouse/data center - MESH has engineers with years of experience preparing the files you'll need. Our models can be used in any software package (Trimble, Topcon, Leica) and if you run into any issues with model upload or your GPS calibration, we will walk you through these processes. Machine control grading has quickly become the industry standard, but the learning curve can cause some contractors to resist transitioning from the old ways. MESH has helped dozens of contractors make the transition to using machine control and to date, none have switched back.

Advantages of "Survey Quality" machine control Data:

  • Conflicts and plan issues are identified and resolved prior to construction start.
  • The surface is built to the actual horizontal and vertical geometry and does not rely on the contours.
  • The contours drawn by the engineer are not accurate enough to use for any fine grading of sub base areas.  Most engineers do not draw the contours to match the details given for features such as basins and swales.
  • The data can be set up once and be used for both grading operations and stakeout of “hard” improvements such as utilities and curbing.

Survey quality data reduces survey layout costs because:

  • Machines and surveyors are using the same data, reducing the calculation time.
  • Machine control eliminates the need for rough and/or fine grade stakes.
  • Conflicts/plan inconsistencies are uncovered ahead of time.
  • Less restake charges because the survey data can be stored and recreated with rover on the jobsite.
  • Lower survey costs in bid to Win More Jobs.  (Use your competitive advantage)
